One could argue that Mad Men, a show starting in 1959 and ending in 1970, was stuck in the 1950s fashion-wise until the arrival Meghan Calvet in Season 4. Saying no more than a few lines in her first appearances, she seemed to be a Joan 2.0 , wearing Joan's signature updo and monochromatic office looks, but by the Season 5 opener we can see Meghan has single handedly brought Don and the office gang into the 1960s.
The now iconic little black dress she wore to serenade Don at his surprise birthday party was the first time we ever saw a woman on the show wearing a mini-dress, etching it into viewers memories forever. While Jessica Pare stunned viewers with her vocal ability the "Zou Bisou Bisou" dress with its trendy length, transparent bell sleeves, and rhinestone accents stole the show as she danced around the room in her kitten heels.
When it came time to shop for my formal dress, I knew I wanted something completely different than what I wore the year before. Since last year I wore a pastel pink floor length gown, I decided this year I would wear something short and dark. Megan Calvet's mod mini instantly came to mind, but where do you buy a dress from a television show that was set 54 years ago? Seeing how it would be impossible to find a similar dress, I put my top seamstress, my grandmother, on the job. With a McAll'S Pattern and $20 worth of material, she was able to recreate the look to a T.

I had a blast at formal which coincidentally was "Old Hollywood" themed. The no nonsense mini-dress was perfect for me because I was stuck in a Latina Leaders Meeting the whole day and only had an hour to do my hair and makeup before racing to take pictures with my friends at the park. This dress was so fun to dance in and I can't thank my grandma enough for putting up with my ~vision~.
