I know we're in the middle of March already, but I have been dying to get this playlist out for a while. I won't waste your time with a long intro, so without further ado, here is your Spring Playlist!
1. A Quick One While He's Away by Saint Motel
Best Lyric: "It's like a dream to be with you again, can't believe that I'm with you again."
Why it Rocks: The lines are simple and unabashedly romantic and AJ Jackson's vocals are breathtakingly beautiful in this The Who cover that was featured in a Wes Anderson Tribute Album.
2. Lucky Girl by Fazerdaze
Best Line: "Are the walls getting closer, as I'm getting closer to you?"
Why it Rocks: It's just a fun, happy song that will stay in your head all day.
3. Sidekick by Walk The Moon
Best Line: "I almost wave goodbye then you let your hair fall in your face"
Why it Rocks: This song takes me back to 7th grade, when I would blast the entirety of "Talking is Hard".
4. True Love Will Find You In The End by Crybaby
Best Line: "True love is searching too, but how can it recognize you, unless you step out into the light?"
Why it Rocks: You might remember this song from my Friday Flicks Review on Hot Summer Nights, where I said that the soundtrack was the best part of the whole film. Well, this is my favorite from the whole movie, and whenever I hear it I think of Timothee Chalamet, which is ... nice.
5. Kids by Pup
Best Line: "I feel like I've come untethered in a room without walls.
Why it Rocks: Just a classic punk song that feels new again.
6. Mind Mischief by Tame Impala
Best Lyric: I hope she knows that I love her alone, I just don't know where the hell I belong.
Why it Rocks: A psychadelic rock song that could give The Grateful Dead a run for their money.
7. Are You Bored Yet? by Wallows
Best Line: Stalling only goes so far when you've got a head start.
Why it Rocks: A dreamy bop with lyrics that any wallflower can relate to.
8. Can't Knock the Hustle by Weezer
Best Line: "Higher education is the key to escape"
Why it Rocks: This is the song that I shadow box to before writing an essay.
9. Edge of Town by Middle Kids
Best Line: "Now standing face to face with the king of the underground, some things just don't add up, I'm upside down I'm inside out."
Why it Rocks: You can hear the emotion in singer Hannah Joy's voice, and it makes you want to sing along.
10. Peter Pan by Arcade Fire
Best Line: "We can walk if we don't feel like flying; We can live, I don't feel like dying"
Why it Rocks: I love the parallels to Peter Pan and Wendy in this song. It's whimsical in a way.
11. Adult Diversion by Alvvays
Best Line: "How do I grow old with you? Even if you don't notice as I pass by you on the sidewalk"
Why it Rocks: You'll be so busy dancing by yourself, you won't notice that ~one~ lyric until the fourth time you listen.
12. Got My Mind Set On You by George Harrison
Best Line: "This time I know it's real, the feeling that I feel"
Why it Rocks: It's George Harrison; no explanation needed.
13. Slow Dancing by Tayla Parx
Best Line: I like diamonds, I like pearls, cause I'm a typical girl.
Why it Rocks: A fun and lighthearted pop song with a subtle criticism of internalized misogyny.
14. Buttercup by Hippocampus
Best Line: I'll be fine, I'm alright, it's my body; gonna stick to my guns like you taught me.
Why it Rocks: Defiant yet catchy, this song will get you in the mood for spring break.
15. Hotel Yorba by The White Stripes
Best Line: It might sound silly for me to think childish thoughts like these, but I'm so tired of acting tough and I'm gonna do what I please.
Why it Rocks: The White Stripes have mastered the old school blues style and it shows in this adorable love song.
Enjoy!
