My Summer Bucket List

I've always dreamed of having a summer like they do in the movies. Going away to some distant country, or going to an endless stream of house parties, or just hanging out at the mall for three months, but alas that is not the life I was meant to have. Instead, I've been taking summer school for the last three years and missing out on family vacations or having to pass on small roles in musicals because of band camp. Essentially, I sit and sweat and avoid looking at Instagram for three months, and dream of long school days with human interaction. Not this summer, though!

This year I am trying to look on the bright side and use my free time to do everything I wanted to (but didn't have time to) do during the school year. So I have compiled a sort of summer bucket list, to show everyone what I'll be doing this summer, and to keep myself accountable so I don't end up re-watching all of Friends again this year. Read on to see my Summer Bucket List!

1. Write more Rag Doll posts!

I really love writing posts on here! Hardly anyone reads them, and sometimes I feel like I'm just talking to myself, but I love having an outlet to talk about whatever I want. It's kind of like keeping a diary, but its about everything, not just my own life. Plus I'm very opinionated, so I like having a place where I can just say something and move on. I've been meaning to post more, since I got into such a streak during the spring, but eventually I just got swamped and had to slow down for a little bit. I look forward to sharing more this summer!

2. Practice my Spanish

Last summer I took my first Spanish class at BC, and I did very well! Probably because I had nothing better to do, but I was still very proud of myself. After I got my A, I didn't think about Spanish again until I enrolled in Spanish II at BC this spring, and had my butt kicked the whole semester. One of the things that made the class easier during the summer, was keeping a journal in Spanish about my day or my thoughts. This helped me recognize more common words and learn new words, but I just fell out of the habit after summer school ended. So this summer I'd like to keep up my Spanish skills by journaling some more!

3. Alterations

There is a giant pile of vintage clothes in my room that were slightly to big, or so long they were outdated, or that needed patches or a cute accent, and I've been neglecting them all year. Now I've got a long list of tears to mend and skirts to hem, so a good deal of my free time will be spent with a needle and thread.

4. Creating New Pieces

I've also got a notebook full of designs and a box of fabric and patterns that I've been waiting to get started, so look out for some new handmade creations of mine coming to an Instagram feed near you! I'm really excited to use a bunch of vintage patterns I got earlier this year and create some colorful and fun pieces in time for back to school!

5. Take More Pictures

As some of you know, I'm a VERY amateur photographer, mostly just taking cute pictures of me or my friends, but I haven't done any big photo shoots in a long time. Now that I have the ability, I can't wait to start putting together sets, styling outfits, and working with new models. I'm so excited to share these projects with everyone!

6. Read Books!

Despite being one of the top readers in my elementary school, it's so hard for me to sit down and read a book these days. I do still enjoy a good book, but there are just so many distractions. I'm going to try my hardest to just completely unplug and finish my English reading list, as well as a few of my own reading choices!

7. Clean out my closet

I don't know if you can tell, but I have a lot of clothes. An ungodly amount of clothes. So many I can't even close my drawers. I've decided to clean out my closets and try to sell all the pieces I don't wear very much, so I can start to save up for my senior graduation trip. I haven't decided if I want to sublet in New York, take a road trip across the US, or backpack around Europe. I'll probably end up going to the beach with my family.

8. Get Better at Driving

I got my permit this spring and have driven around my neighborhood three times at most. I really need to practice driving, especially if I want to get my license by senior year. Waiting for a ride is so freshman year and I'm over it.

9. Learn more songs on Guitar

Maybe it's because I read so many musical biographies, but I've been really inspired to start playing guitar and singing more. I usually sing in a choir, so it's really cool to be the only one singing sometimes and depend on myself for accompaniment. It makes me feel like I'm growing as a musician and I have a whole collections of songs I want to cover.

10. Start college applications!

I've been waiting to apply for college since freshman year! I can't wait to start making my dreams of moving east and living in a city come true. Next year can't come soon enough!

Thanks for Reading!
